Canberra’s Best Farmers Markets
Farmers Markets are making a comeback, and it’s no surprise considering the ample supply of fresh local produce they have on offer. Luckily for us, Canberra has a number of great local farmers markets offering quality home grown produce and locally made products.
Why not explore this weekend and experience the vibrant and lively atmosphere of the marketplace, while also stocking up on delicious fresh fruit, vegetables, bread and meat.
These are my picks of the Best Canberra Farmers Markets.
1. Capital Region Farmers Markets
A Canberra institution, the Capital Region Farmers Market is one of the largest regional markets in the Southern Tablelands.
This bustling market has over 100 stallholders it is not only great for getting your hands on some local food but there is also lots to do. The many amazing vendors sell a fantastic range of fresh fruits, vegetables, plants, flowers, seafood, cakes, condiments, meats, cheeses and so much more. There are also a number of stalls, which sell ready made food you can enjoy there.

2. Southside Farmers Market
Another great place where you get to meet and talk face to face the people who grow and produce the food you eat. The Southside Farmers Market will supply you with all the fresh and seasonal produce you need for your weekly shop. The market has a great range on offer from around 50 stallholders each week - including fruit, vegetables, eggs, meat, fish, honey, bread, cooking sauces, condiments, baked goods and much more. They also boast a great offering of certified organic and biodynamic produce.
Once you’re done collecting your haul you can sit back and relax over a cappuccino or a hot chocolate made with real Belgian chocolate, and maybe even a crepe, sausage sandwich or gozleme in the courtyard.

5. Choku Bai Jo
While not technically a farmers market, Choku Bai Jo stands for the same fundamental values of selling local produce for local people, but with the convenience of being available throughout the week.
The shop was set up as an extension of the two of Capital Region and Southside farmers markets, which the owners had been heavily involved in. The goal for the shop was to give farmers another outlet for their fresh produce while making it easier for the public to access fresh produce.
As well as the fresh produce picked every day from Gleann na Meala (certified organic growers from Hall), the shop also picks up other regional produce from Young, Cowra, Picton and Sydney. They also have produce dropped off from areas like Leeton, Batlow, Marulan and Cowra.
When: Monday to Friday, 2pm-7pm and 8am-1pm Saturday.
Where: North Lyneham Shops off Cossington-Smith Crescent, and Curtin Shops.
